Rocco Fama drew extremely detailed renderings of brick buildings and urban landscapes, usually in colored pencil or oils. He stated that his renderings reflected memories of trips to construction sites in New York City where his father worked.
Fama said that he was born in Italy in 1926 and emigrated to the United States at eleven months of age. He grew up in New York City's Little Italy near Mott and Mulberry Streets. Fama later lived in SRO's (single room occupancies) before moving to a nursing home, where he died in 1999. His sister remained involved in Fama's life and arranged for his burial near his family.
