| Jamison completed some of her finest paintings in her later years, including the seascape. Seaview Mamor (a consistent misspelling). Early in life, Jamison painted intermittently; later, until the onset of her physical illness, she drew and painted regularly with intentional deliberation. She used any medium that was available to her, but her later works favored acrylic paint in the color, yellow. When inspired, Jamison painted with clear ideas and great concentration. Her works - landscapes, animals or faces - are composed of many fragmented elements and usuallyinclude a wildly smiling sun. Many works reflect the importance of cigarette smoking in her life. Jamison was born in Queens in 1933 and died there in 1997 after suffering a fatal heart attack. She had a lengthy history of mental illness. She spent her final years in a skilled health care facility. She completed some of her finest works in her later years. Jamisons sister remained actively involved in Jamisons life and arranged for Jamison to attend an exhibit of her work shortly before her death. Her paintings are included in the Musgrave Kinley Outsider Trust. |
