• Workshops
HAI offers participatory arts workshops in music, dance, performance
arts,
visual and media arts. The workshops are led by professional artists
with skills
and experience in working with people with disabilities. Workshops
take place
at day programs, residential treatment centers, skilled care facilities,
afterschool
programs, substance abuse treatment programs and homeless shelters
for adults.
Workshops are usually weekly and engage participants in hands-on
activities in an
art form. Through these ongoing experiences, daily living skills,
social, cognitive,
interactive and motor skills, are enhanced. Confidence and zest
for positive life
experience are also improved.

• The Saturday Studio
A day-long program brings together adults living with serious mental
illness who are
interested in pursuing an intensive experience in making art. Participants
in the Studio
enjoy a collegial atmosphere in which they share their passion for
artistic expression.
In addition to funding from the New York City Department of Health
& Mental Hygiene,
a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts expanded The Studio
to include
computer-based arts.
