Quincy Boykin, Mental Health Consumer Advocate
HAI
regrets to announce the passing of Quincy Boykin, former Director
of Consumer Affairs at the New York City Department of Health
and Mental Hygiene. He was a respected activist who fought
tirelessly for the interests of individuals living with mental
illness in New York. The memorial was held at Saint Peter's
Church (the Jazz Church) on August 6th. As a tribute to Quincy,
a life long Jazz aficionado, HAI and Circuit Production arranged
for The Brooks Kerr Trio to perform. At the memorial service,
Steve Coe, Executive Director of Community Access, remembed
the man who "had the guts and courage of a paratrooper.
He often was the only person in the room with a different
opinion. We've lost a leader but Quincy was always nurturing
leaders."

Tim McDonnell, HAI Site Coordinator
Tim
McDonnell sadly and suddenly passed away on May 31, 2003.
He worked for HAI for six years as both a site coordinator
and an actor/facilitator. He will be remembered for his contagious
enthusiasm, his warmth and dedication and as an outstanding
Santa Claus at HAI's holiday parties for homeless families
and children. Tim touched countless lives through his work
at HAI, as well as through his acting career. He was an extraordinary
friend, mentor and colleague. Many members of the HAI family
attended his memorial service where, among others, staff member,
Rhonda McLean-Nur and HAI performers Stephanie Berry and Christine
Campbell spoke of Tim's passion for performance, his heart-felt
belief in HAI's mission, and his (literal) ability to pull
out whatever magic trick was needed at the moment to bring
smiles to people's faces.
