Spectacular, Ballet Argentino, Ballet Hispanico and

shows such as 42nd Street, Into the Woods, Cabaret, Flower Drum
Song, Oklahoma and Dinner at Eight. This program is in
its third year of funding from the New York City Department of Cultural
Affairs. New offerings will be made available for events this spring.
HAI has over 32,000 seniors registered in the Tickets
to Go Program. HAI is now able to offer these members tickets to
specially designed music and dance events in all five boroughs.
Over 300 members of Tickets To Go attended two performances by Tom
Wopat that began HAI's Community Performing Arts Series for 2002-2003.
This series was created in the 70's to provide access to cultural
events in community locations for people living outside the cultural
mainstream.
Mr. Wopat’s first concert was on October 17th at the
Electrical Industries Auditorium in Flushing Queens and the second
a week later at the Center for the Arts at the College of Staten
Island. Mrs. Roslyn Miller from Fresh Meadows wrote "Just a note
to say thank you for a delightful hour of song headed by Tom Wopat
along with his band. My three friends and I had looked forward to
this event. We were not let down. Tom Wopat sang lovely melodies
and has a warm way of projecting himself to the audience. I must
say that the musicians were outstanding and we let them know by
our enthusiasm. As we are all seniors, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon
of nostalgic songs. There should be more of this type of event."
Jean Amberger wrote that "Both his singing and musical accompaniment
were great. Judging by the response of the audience, I was not the
only one who was delighted to be there. Please continue to give
the senior citizens of Staten Island a chance to enjoy similar treats."
Tom Wopat first received National attention when he
starred in the television series The Dukes of Hazard. More
recently, he received a Tony Award nomination for his role of Frank
Butler playing opposite Bernadette Peters in the smash hit revival
of Annie Get Your Gun and has appeared on Broadway in City
of Angels and I Love My Wife. He is currently starring
on Broadway in the musical hit 42nd Street.
Following the concerts Mr. Wopat signed autographs
and copies of his new CD The Still of the Night. "His banter
with patients afterwards was so wonderful to behold. He showed compassion
and great warmth towards the disabled in the crowd and made them
all feel quite special! Just seeing the smiles on the faces of the
patients was worth attending" wrote Barbara Derbabian. “On
a scale of 1-10, these concerts of Tom’s were an 11.”
