Cultural Events

In the current fiscal year, HAI is arranging for an audience totaling over 50,000 people to attend over 900 cultural events.

people to the arts

The Cultural Events Program is one of the oldest at HAI. It opens the world of concert halls and theaters to individuals who are culturally isolated due to mental or physical disability, frailty or age, impaired immunity, illness, homelessness or substance abuse. HAI shares the vast cultural resources of New York City with those who have been ‘shut out.’

“I am an elderly (actually old) senior citizen with numerous physical problems (which, unlike my income, increase each year) and going to the theater has become a luxury I can rarely afford. I’ve lived in New York City all my life and one of the advantages is having access to plays, but as tickets become more and more expensive it becomes a choice between necessities and entertainment -- and of course, entertainment loses out. I am writing to thank you for HAI and your wonderful program. Going to the the theatre makes me feel young again (not that there’s anything wrong with being old) and I know I will have a wonderful day when I see a Broadway show.”
