Omni*Bus Trips make nursing home residents "Feel Normal Again"

After discovering that some of the elderly residents of Village Nursing Home had been out of their residence in a vehicle only twice in the past three years, Omni*Bus Coordinator Jennifer Swaner offered the agency several Omni*Bus outings.

HAI’s Omni*Buses are New York City Transit buses that have been uniquely retrofitted to carry both wheelchairs and/or stretcher beds. They allow for the transit of individuals who cannot travel in a conventional car or bus.

Nursing home staff selected individuals who had isolated themselves for the trips, and were amazed at the impact, as is reported in the letter below.

The Omni*Bus trips were made possible by a grant from the New York Community Trust.
