HAI’s Community
Events Program provides access to cultural events for special
needs populations. With a number of distinct components, including
those listed below, the program opens the world of concert halls
and theatres to individuals who are culturally isolated due to mental
or physical disability, frailty or age, impaired immunity, illness,
homelessness or substance abuse. This program helps individuals
overcome physical, economic, temporal and programmatic obstacles
to New York’s cultural richness.
The Community
Performing Arts Series arranges professional performances
at physically accessible venues throughout the five boroughs.
The Summer Program
arranges special seating at NY Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera
concerts in City parks and transportation to Shakespeare Festival
productions at the Delacorte Theater.
HAI's two Omni*Buses
safely and comfortably carry people who use
wheelchairs and individuals who are bed-confined from nursing homes
and rehabilitation centers to cultural events throughout the greater
New York area.
Tickets To Go
sponsors greatly discounted tickets to cultural events for New Yorkers
aged 60 and over.
Describe!
provides live audio descriptions of Broadway and Off Broadway performances
for blind and visually impaired individuals.
STEP
(Student Teacher Enrichment Program) enables NY public schools to
purchase tickets to cultural events through HAI.
