On
March 25, 2003, one of HAI’s finest facilitators, Kenneth
Green, died at the age of 42.
As a HAI facilitator/actor, Kenn utilized theater and role-playing
techniques to educate participants and offer information on issues
such as HIV/AIDS, conflict resolution and housing readiness in schools,
mental health residences, alternative to detention centers and homeless
shelters. He had the ability to tame and focus a sometimes rowdy
group of enthusiastic youth with his energetic spirit and boundless
heart.
“Kenn was one of my favorite people to work
with. He had a real respect for a person’s space. There was
never a feeling of competition and he always had something to say
to make you laugh.” --Stephanie Berry, HAI Artist
“Kenn was a very reliable and charming person
to work with. Through his tireless efforts, he saw to it that the
children in PS 130’s “Express to Success” program
got the maximum benefit out of HAI’s Arts Alive program, which
provided the children with many Broadway theater tickets and complementary
workshops.”
--Carolyn Feidel, Arts Alive Coordinator
Kenn received his BFA degree from Greer Garson Theater Center College
at the University of Santa Fe New Mexico. He earned a Presidential
Scholarship and received his Masters of Fine Arts degree from the
British American National Theater Institute through the University
of California.
The theater was Kenn’s passion, but his greatest passion
was in the education of youth. He loved teaching them, not only
in the traditional sense, but also on a more personal level, about
life in general. Most of all he loved being around them. He was
always acting and joking, he loved life and lived it to the fullest.
