Dear
Arts Alive / Princeton University,
Thank you for giving my mother and me those tickets to
see the Broadway show Aida in the Palace Theater. My mother
and I truly enjoyed the show and are grateful to have such
compassionate citizens in this world.
Unfortunately, we received those tickets because of a
tragic incident on September 11th. My mothers friend
is in our prayers everyday. He was a true hero, for he was
one of the firefighters who perished when the buildings collapsed.
Fortunately, firefighters and recovery workers recovered his
body and we are able to have closure. Once again, thank you
for the tickets!
Sincerely,

I have been very hesitant to come into the city. In fact,
Im very much on edge. The natural feeling you would
have would be to fear any sights or sounds of anything that
has to do with the traumatic event. I, quite frankly, am sort
of on edge, looking around me all the time. Because the event
did happen in the city, it wasnt like the fear is coming
from being inexperienced with the city; Im one who worked
in the city for many years. The fear is definitely from the
event. By going to a Broadway show, in this case Into The
Woods it did break the barrier with a specific thing to go
to -I felt there was somebody from HAls Arts Alive program
meeting us there and I felt good about being in midtown as
opposed to downtown. My five-year-old boy was on the edge
of his seat as I expected. However, my 7 year old, who is
now in 1st grade, who would, I thought, be the one who would
be bouncing around and would have probably lost interest.
He was completely on the edge of his seat. He remembered every
detail, so it was an excellent experience. We appreciate the
opportunity to have had that experience.

Dear Staff of HAI,
I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for the many
opportunities you are providing for our children, our families,
and our staff. When I was first contacted by you, I was very
excited to see that we would have an opportunity to expose
our students to the various arts theatre, dance, operas,
etc. Much to my surprise, almost immediately after expressing
my interest in your offers, our students were invited to the
Museum of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium. Soon
after, 47 of our kindergarten children and their parents were
invited to see Sesame Street Live. They are still, to this
day, talking about their experience! Of course, we are all
looking forward to other programs you are offering for the
future as well.
Your organization has surfaced at a time that is most
opportune and fortunate for our families. They are still suffering
from the effects of the September attacks, seen dramatically
and most shockingly from their classroom windows. Our school
is on one of the streets
used as a main thoroughfare
to keep the victims, covered with soot and debris, walking
north in a continued state of confusion and disarray. Our
staff has directed much time and energy since then to provide
our children and their families with the support they need.
We try to remind them of the good things in life and that
they still have much to look forward to because we do live
in a great country with so many wonderful people. You have
helped in an invaluable way to reinforce our efforts and to
brighten their (and our!) lives.
Thank you so much for all you have done and all that your
organization proposes to do in the future. Your hard work
and devotion to our families will always be remembered. God
bless you all!
Sincerely,
Stewart Weiner, Assistant Principal
