Five of New York's State Senators, (clockwise,
from top) Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno, Sen. Frank Padavan,
Sen. Martin J. Golden, Sen. John J. Marchi, and Sen. Thomas P. Morahan,
are strong supporters of HAI. These Senators advocated for a legislative
initiative for additional funds through the Office of Mental Health.
The funds will expand HAI's Mental Health Social Rehabilitation
Program, HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Program in NYC's shelter
system, youth theater project Respect in City public schools, and
trips for the frail elderly on HAI's Omni*Bus. Eight years of Senate
support have helped HAI sustain these vital programs, which help
vulnerable New Yorkers heal, grow and learn through the arts.
Grassroots
Support
In early 2005, HAI faced a possible reduction
in funding from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
HAI consumers (pictured above) rallied together at City Hall with
New York City Council Member Margarita Lopez. The reduction will
be partially restored, thanks in measure to these loyal, outspoken
supporters! Photo: Carolyn Feidel
