Joe Simms,
Big Whit Fish, will be included in the exhibition Contemporary
Outsider Art in America: Survey 2006.
From October through
December, The Gallery at HAI will present a festive holiday
exhibit entitled Text on Art. Featured is the work of William
Gonzalez, who consistently included words in his very graphic
paintings. His paintings reflect his personal history, idiosyncratic
views of life and guiding principles for his life, including
"Don't follow the wrong duck." A festive reception
kicks off the holiday season on the evening of November 17.
As part of Outsider
Art Week in New York City, during the last week in January,
‘06, The Gallery will present the second annual Contemporary
Outsider Art in America: SURVEY 2006. This juried exhibit
brings together self-taught artists with mental disabilities
from across the United States. The exhibit provides an opportunity
for the work of the exhibiting artists, who are mostly otherwise
unknown, to be viewed
in a gallery setting near the Outsider Art Fair around the
corner at the Puck Building. Survey 2006 will be on exhibit
from January 10 through March 25, 2006.
Animations
from HAI Electronic Arts Workshops
The animation frames illustrated below were produced in the
HAI electronic arts workshop at P811M (Riverview High School).
P811M educates students who also attend the Bellevue Hospital
Center Adolescent Day Treatment Program. Professional animator
David Zackin led students in producing their individual clips
of animation on computer software with the support of Creative
Arts Therapist, Alan Pottinger. The clips are now available
for view on the HAI website. This workshop is funded through
the Arts-in-Education Program of New York State Council on
the Arts.
