HAI's
Summer Program provides opportunities for people with disabilities
and frail elderly individuals to attend performances in New York
City parks. For performances of the Metropolitan Opera and the New
York Philharmonic in parks in the five boroughs, the Summer Program
reserves space near the stage, and arranges for wheelchair-accessible
bathrooms, so that people with disabilities and the frail elderly
can enjoy concerts safely and in comfort.
For
performances of the New York Shakespeare Festival, HAI reserves
seats at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, so that people whose
disabilities make them unable to stand in long lines for tickets
can enjoy classic performances.
Summer Program highlights
from past years have included Garth Brook's and Pavarotti's concerts
in Central Park, the much-acclaimed production of The Tempest
with Patrick Stewart, and performances on the Central Park Summerstage.
During the summer of 2006, the program will feature performances
by the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera, as well
as Broadway Under the Stars.
