Community Performing
Arts Series (CPAS) are performing arts events, arranged and produced
by HAI, that take place throughout the year, primarily in the daytime,
at wheelchair-accessible venues that can accommodate large audiences,
in neighborhoods throughout New York City. The audiences are drawn
from health and mental health facilities and programs for seniors,
as well as frail elderly and physically disabled individuals, and
other "shut-ins" who may rarely have the chance to experience
the thrill of live performance.
Performers at special
events in previous years have included Tito Puente, Margaret Whiting,
Theodore Bikel, Karen Mason, Lilianne Montevecchi, Phyllis Newman,
Petula Clark, Ben Vereen, Bette Midler, Leslie Uggams, Julie Budd,
and Ronnie Spector.
Dance Companies include
Ailey 2, Urban Bush Women, DANCE by Neil Greenberg,
Ballet Hispanico, Taylor 2, JAZZ DANCE by Danny
Buraczeski, American Ballroom Theatre, and Dance Theatre
of Harlem.
