HAI's School Programs -
Youth Leadership Presentations & Workshops

To book a workshop series performance with follow-up workshops, or if you have any questions, contact Kaya Chwals and Meghan Jernigan at (212) 575-7670 or email kchwals@hospaud.org or mjernigan@hospaud.org.

Student in workshop

We would like to offer your students performance and workshop programs addressing issues faced by all New York City adolescents, lead by professional Teaching Artists. Unique to HAI, our Peer Educators, youth between the ages of 15-21, are trained to assist the Teaching Artist by acting as positive role models and linkages between youth participants and Teaching Artists.

Youth Leadership & Prevention Workshops (all grades)
An excellent option for in-depth focused interventions. Theatrical workshops impart conflict resolution skills and foster leadership through the exploration of positive resolutions to difficult problems. Each workshop is 45 minutes, and is sold in residencies of 4. Cost: $1,800

Take Ya Time (grades 3-5)
A fast paced and entertaining drama exploring the consequences of bullying and miscommunication among youth growing up in the age of Internet. Ideal for an assembly. Take Ya Time is followed by interactive workshops that allow for constructive student involvement and the development of critical thinking skills through HAI’s role-play methodology. Cost: $2,800*

Peace by Peace (grades 8-12)
This 45-minute performance is seen through a series of vignettes that allows the students to witness a variety of conflicts they themselves might face, including human rights issues, domestic violence, teen relationship abuse, and social pressures. During the follow-up workshops, students explore the impact and the consequences of combative responses to conflict using role-play and other theatrical techniques.
Cost: $2,800*

Respect (high school)
Directed by Tony Award-winning artist George Faison, RESPECT tackles problems faced by urban adolescents including self-esteem and peer pressure. RESPECT is a unique and powerful educational production, followed by a Q & A with facilitators where the issues in the production are explored in depth.
Cost: $2,800

*price may increase based on number of workshops requested

“Students saw the scenarios in the ‘play’ as real and meaningful to them. They were willing participants in the role-plays (even some students that are usually reticent agreed to participate).”- -Harriet Gribben, School Social Worker

Personalized Assembly Performance (K-12)
HAI’s newest program, including theatrical presentations and workshops that address a wide range of relevant issues that impact youth. An assembly performance – entertaining, enlightening and educational - is tailored specifically to your school’s students. The customized assembly is the best way to begin to work through topics which may impede the academic and social goals of your community. HAI’s roster of professional Teaching Artists and Peer Educators, all trained in HAI’s theatre techniques, present an individualized performance and follow up facilitation directly after an assembly performance. Cost: $1,500.
